What is the Gastric Sleeve?

Gastric Sleeve is a restrictive procedure meaning that it achieves weight loss results by restricting the amount of food that your body is physically able to take in.  By reducing the size of your stomach, it can now hold less food and thus, helping you reduce weight consistently after surgery.

How Does it Work?

The Gastric Sleeve surgery involves removing a large portion of the stomach permanently, anywhere from 60% to 85% of the total stomach. The remaining portion left behind is a slim tube that will now become your new stomach. This smaller stomach is already connected naturally to the stomach inlet and outlet which means that no rerouting of your intestines is needed.  The remaining stomach looks like a sleeve (or tube) and holds about 50 to 150ml. or about the size of a banana.

Single-Port (SILS) Laparoscopy Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Unlike a traditional multi-port laparoscopic approach, SPL leaves only a single small scar.

Also known as Single incision laparoscopic surgery (or SILS) is a procedure that is essentially scarless because the incision is hidden within the umbilicus.

Dr. Sergio Verboonen’s extensive experience and advance skill set provides you with unparalleled level of expertise.

Rather than the traditional four to five small incisions, a single small incision can be used at the entry point. All surgical instruments are placed through this small incision and also the incision site is located in the left abdomen or umbilicus.

Providing the benefits of fewer scars, the opportunity of less pain, and shorter recovery periods, SILS is one of the newest laparoscopic techniques and it is regarded as non-invasive. In general, SILS techniques take about the same amount of time to do as traditional laparoscopic surgeries.

When compared with traditional multi-port laparoscopic surgery, some of the benefits of SPL techniques include:

  • less postoperative pain
  • less blood loss
  • faster recovery time
  • and better cosmetic results.
