I have been struggling with my weight for years and being on my feet makes it worse. I heard about Dr. Verboonen through a friend and decided to do their free consultation. I see why they he is considered the best gastric sleeve and revision surgeon in tijuana mexico - he’s been the mentor of all new up and coming surgeons! I was very happy they explained each option to me in detail which helped a lot. They said the average person loses about 30 lbs in 10 weeks. I was skeptical about not being hungry and doing a 500 calorie diet but the reason I am giving 5 stars is not only was the customer service great I lost 15 lbs in two weeks without being hungry. Dr. V and his entire staff are friendly and pay close attention to your wants and needs. I am so happy now!

Lap-Band Removal A Common Revision

Many patients who come to our Tijuana office to receive weight loss revision have had a Lap-Band®. Typically, they are experiencing trouble maintaining long-term weight loss or they have experienced medical complications like erosion, slippage, or port malfunction and require revision surgery to correct this health risk. Once the Lap-Band is removed, our surgeon can proceed with a different form of weight loss surgery and eliminate any existing or potential complications related to your Lap-Band.

Types of Weight-Loss Revision After Lap-Band Removal

If you have a gastric band but wish to try a different form of weight loss surgery, the first step is to contact our Tijuana practice. Our surgeon will review your medical history and goals and recommend the weight loss surgery that will give you the best results. Once your Lap-Band is removed, you will need to wait for a period of time before you can proceed with your next bariatric procedure.

Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve

Many patients who want their gastric band removed choose to undergo gastric sleeve surgery. This is one of our preferred conversion options. During gastric sleeve surgery, our bariatric surgeon removes around 80 percent of your stomach. The smaller portion that is left behind, the gastric sleeve, is about the size and shape of a banana. Gastric sleeve surgery works by shrinking your stomach to reduce the amount of food you can eat and it reduces the production of ghrelin, the hormone that makes us feel hungry.

Tell Me More About Gastric Sleeve

Lap-Band to Mini Gastric Bypass

Mini gastric bypass surgery is another top recommendation by our surgeon after Lap-Band removal. During this weight loss surgery, our bariatric surgeon will divide your stomach into two pouches. He will then reroute your small intestine to the smaller pouch. This bariatric surgery has two benefits: the smaller stomach reduces the amount of food you can eat and the rerouted intestine reduces the number of calories you can absorb. This method is simpler and quicker than traditional gastric bypass, which lowers your risk of many complications.

I'm Interested in Mini Gastric Bypass

Lap-Band to Gastric Bypass

Gastric bypass can also be performed as a revision after your Lap-Band is removed. Also called Roux-en-Y, this traditional full-bypass method requires more of your small intestine to be rerouted than during mini gastric bypass surgery. Our bariatric professional will divide your stomach into two portions, then will link the small portion to the lower part of the small intestine. Your small intestine is then reorganized to connect to both the small and large stomach portions creating what looks like a "Y."

Gastric Bypass vs. Duodenal Switch What's the Difference?

Both weight loss procedures are similar in that they divide your stomach into two portions and reroute your small intestine. However, in a duodenal switch, more of the small intestine is bypassed. While considered safe, this surgery further limits the number of calories and nutrients your body can absorb. Bariatric patients who choose this method must be sure to regularly take vitamins and stick to their nutrition plan or they could experience several postoperative health issues.

Gastric Bypass Revision

During gastric bypass surgery, a link is created between the newly formed stomach and the lower part of the small intestine, allowing you to eat less and absorb fewer calories.

A gastric bypass can fail for two main reasons: a medical complication or insufficient results.

Medical Complication

For some patients, a medical complication can result after surgery. Our surgeon will carefully review your concerns and goals in order to recommend the best solution for your immediate and long-term health.

Insufficient Results

In some patients, the first gastric bypass may fail to deliver sufficient long-term weight loss. Our surgeon may choose to extend the length of the bypass, which will cause your body to absorb even fewer calories.

The experienced surgeon at our Tijuana location can perform a gastric bypass revision to help you get back on track with your weight loss goals.

We Support You After Your Weight Loss Revision Surgery

Our Tijuana practice offers support to all our patients before and after their operations. Successful bariatric surgery is largely dependent on lifestyle changes and a commitment by the patient to stick to them. To ensure our patients experience the lasting, life-changing benefits of bariatric surgery, we provide them with psychological and nutritional guidance before and after their operation.

Am I a Good Candidate For Weight Loss Revision Surgery?

Typically, any healthy patient who has undergone a bariatric surgical procedure but is still experiencing weight gain or another medical complication is a good candidate for revision. The best way to evaluate your options is to contact our Tijuana practice and consult with our bariatric experts. Contact us if you are experiencing:

  • Weight Gain After Surgery
  • An Enlarged Gastric Pouch
  • A Ruptured or Displaced Gastric Band

I don't have a lot of weight to lose, just 10 pounds, but that makes it really hard too. I am entering middle age which also makes weight loss harder as I naturally lose muscle and my metabolism slows. So far, I have lost 5 lbs of fat and gained 5 lbs of muscle. All the food options that I have tried have been delicious and it just helps to have well balanced snacks/food on hand so that I eat proper amounts of protein and keep my sugar intake down. It is all about creating a chemical reaction to spur my body to release the fat. The chips are great and so are the cookies and bars. I don't feel deprived and I can still satisfy my sweet tooth. WIN-WIN. I love the scale that measures all the key factors because it is not just about the number on the scale. Specially when the best gastric sleeve surgeon in tijuana has your back, at all times. The in house patient facilitator was much better prepared during my interview, and the entire process was smooth sailing all the way through.

This place is amazing! I have been struggling losing weight and my Dr. told me to try Dr. Sergio Verboonen (and only him for that matter) at his tijuana bariatric center. I did a free consult first which was very informative. They have a machine that checked my metabolism, body fat, weight, and a bunch of other things. After discussing all the options they have I went with the phentermine, fat burners, and they even gave me a book to tell me what to eat with weekly diet counseling sessions. Last week I tried the food they offer and I was hooked! This place is professional, informative, and is not expensive. I have tried it all and finally I found a place that is helping me lose my weight! If you are struggling like I was you should call the consult is free. And by the way, I was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was not only at the clinic, but everywhere I went in Tijuana after my surgery.
